All STEM Foundation and First Year Physics students need to make themselves available from that date. During this time, we will be introducing you to: the teaching team, the modules that you will be studying from the following week, organisational aspects, and each other.<\/p>\n
The Induction Programme for all STEM Foundation and First Year Physics students will run from Monday 7th September to Thursday 10th September (inclusive). There are alternative arrangements<\/a> for students entering Second and Third Year. Foundation and First Year students need to be prepared to be present on-campus Monday to Thursday for the periods 10am-12pm and 2-4pm for STEM Foundation Year and Physics-based induction events<\/strong>. There is also a 12pm-1pm Faculty-level welcome on Wednesday 9th September.<\/p>\n LOCATION<\/strong>.\u00a0 Physics Induction events are often in the new SEE Building<\/strong>, but this year start in the fourth floor Maxwell Building room 412<\/strong>. Both of these buildings, and some others involved in induction week, can be identified in the following schematic map<\/a>.<\/p>\n September 2026 Induction Programmes can be selected from the main university menu system<\/a>, or accessed directly using the links below:<\/p>\n \u25ca\u00a0 Induction Programme for Foundation Year<\/a>\u00a0 \u2020<\/strong><\/p>\n \u25ca\u00a0 Induction Programme for First Year Physics<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n \u2020 The same<\/strong> Foundation Year induction programme applies for Physics \/ Electrical and Electronic Engineering \/ Acoustical & Audio Engineering with Foundation Year. Detailed presentations and information slides<\/strong> will be provided in the ‘Physics Programmes’ Blackboard space. Blackboard<\/a> is our ‘Virtual Learning Environment’ (VLE) where course materials are hosted. The vast majority of your courses will however be delivered face-to-face and on-campus in lecture theatres, teaching rooms, laboratories, etc. You will have needed to complete your registration process to access Blackboard course pages.<\/p>\n The University and Students’ Union will be running their own events and activities outside of the above days and times during Induction Week.<\/p>\n \u25ca \u00a0 University Welcome Events Main<\/strong> teaching starts on Monday 14 September 2026<\/strong>.\u00a0 The Physics Department is based in the new SEE Building (see the maps, and also the floorplan of this building, that are further down this page). If you are unsure where certain rooms are, then please visit Reception at the main entrance of the SEE Building. Reception staff can help you to find your way.<\/p>\n This year, teaching timetables<\/strong> will be available from the start of Induction Week.\u00a0 Screenshots of these will also be within the Teaching Timetables<\/a> section of this website, but you should make sure that you also check the new official Online Timetable System<\/em><\/a> (login required, alternative link<\/em><\/a>).<\/p>\n A full breakdown of the 2026\/2027 courses<\/strong> being taught can be found within Current Courses<\/a>, their assessment deadlines are summarised in Assessment<\/a>, and the structure of the full academic year can be found in Year Calendars<\/a>.<\/p>\n You will find that classes are most commonly held in the SEE, Newton, Chapman, Peel and Maxwell buildings.\u00a0 Occasionally, some other key buildings are also used.
