The University of Reading offered a range of undergraduate degree courses involving physics at BSc (3-years) and MPhys (4-years) levels. These include Physics, Physics and the Universe, Theoretical Physics, Physics with Computer Science, Physics and Meteorology and Mathematics and Physics. Postgraduate degrees include an MSc in Applied and Modern Optics, MSc in Research and PhD. A highly regarded Foundation Year widens access to the undergraduate programmes and through these into excellent employment and research opportunities.
The Department has a reputation for excellence in teaching, having been one of the ten physics departments in the UK to score maximum marks (24/24) in the recent Teaching Quality Assessments (Subject Review). It was the development home of the Flexible Learning Approach to Physics (FLAP) project, now used widely in UK physics departments. The Department also has a high reputation for research in Atomic and Molecular Physics, Biophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, Nanoscience, Optics and Polymer Science.
